CNN – Rescuers searched for six people on Monday, including a British tech tycoon Mike Lynch – One of the 22 people on board a luxury yacht has gone missing after it was hit by a tornado and sank off the coast of Sicily.
The yacht was anchored about half a mile from the Mediterranean island’s port of Porticello when it was hit by a tornado at around 5 a.m. Monday, according to an Italian Coast Guard spokesman.
The spokesman said the missing included four Britons and two Americans.
Lynch, the founder of software giant Autonomy, was a passenger on the yacht, a source told CNN, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
Fifteen people were rescued, including Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacarese, and a child was airlifted to Palermo Children’s Hospital. Eight people were hospitalized, the mayor’s office said. A body was found on the yacht’s hull, the Coast Guard said.
