Take care of your heart – call to raise awareness for World Heart Day By Julia Appetite 27 September 2023 It’s our most precious and reliable ally, yet we often take it for granted.
Without a healthy heart, our well-being and vitality are severely compromised. Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, but many of these conditions are preventable through conscious lifestyle choices.
That is why World Heart Day is celebrated on September 29, a day established by the World Heart Federation to inform and raise awareness among citizens about the importance of preventing cardiovascular diseases by taking care of their heart, and adopt a healthy lifestyle to keep it strong and healthy.
A different theme is chosen every year
In order to focus attention on clear aspects and key issues related to cardiovascular health, the 2022 theme is “A Heart for Every Heart”, which aims to draw attention to the importance of equal access to health services. The Human Heart);

Until 2011, the day was celebrated on the last Sunday in September, and the first celebration took place on September 24, 2000. In 2012, the date became September 29, a date that has remained unchanged until today, and this day – there are more communities and more than 200 national organizations gathered.

In Italy, World Heart Day is coordinated by the Italian Heart Foundation Association, the national member of the World Heart Federation. In September and beyond, many free events open to the public are organized by hospitals, local health authorities, patient associations, hospitals, public institutions and private organizations, and information materials are distributed to raise awareness of taking care of their hearts.
What is Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a group of conditions that affect the heart or blood vessels (veins and arteries). They can be caused by a combination of socioeconomic, behavioral, and environmental risk factors, including high blood pressure, poor diet, high cholesterol, diabetes, air pollution, obesity, smoking, kidney disease, physical inactivity, harmful alcohol use, and stress. Family history, race, sex, and age also influence the risk of CVD.
