The Shuswap is home to more than 600 farms, and while it’s impossible to visit them all, a partnership between Shuswap Tourism and the Central Shuswap District tries to make it easier to support local farmers.

“We noticed that in these areas, there were a ton of really cute farm stands, and we wanted to highlight what’s happening naturally in our community,” said Shuswap Tourism Manager Morgen Matheson.
The project is in its early stages and has highlighted eight farm stands so far. Shuswap Growth Website.

“This is important to our local agricultural community,” Matheson said.
“We have to highlight these passionate people who have given so much to us and who have put so much work into getting food from their farms to our tables.”
One of the featured stands is Harvest at Valley Acres on Salmon River Road, which has produce available year-round.
“It’s basically a home farm, we grow vegetables, we raise eggs, we cut and wrap lamb and beef,” said Esther Webster of Valley Acres Harvest Farm.
“But the biggest thing we do here is muffins and baking.”
Then, starting from the farm, your guide will lead you along Yankee Flats Road to Bee Yours.
“We started here six years ago, and I come from a beekeeping family in Argentina,” said María Daniela Dambros of Bee Yours.
“We started with 300 hives and now we have close to 900 hives.”
Along the trail, there are signs marking the official site, with QR codes that take you to a website where you can learn all about the farm and the people who run it.
The Shuswap Farm Stand is now fully stocked and ready to serve locally sourced food.
