Swire Shipping’s coastal container ship Takutai Chief has announced its withdrawal from service, a move the maritime union described as a major blow.
The Takutai Chief will enter service in New Zealand in 2022, supported by the National Land Transport Plan.
Swire Shipping (NZ), a subsidiary of multinational Swire Pacific Group, received taxpayer subsidies of $10.5 million over two years to operate the now-out-of-service coastal container ship Takutai Chief.
