.. Earlier, administrative and preparatory preparations for the 34th Sharjah Theatre Days in 2025 began, which were undertaken by a team of creative professionals, both on stage and in the administrative and technical management of this major show, the first of which was in 1948.

The aforementioned team is made up of the Sharjah Theatre Festival Supreme Standing Committee: Ahmed Burahima, Director of Theatre Management at the Ministry of Culture and Director of the Festival, Ismail Abdullah, one of the most important figures in theatre creation, a creative with richness and professionalism, then the creative Ahmed Al Jasmi, who fills the theatre with his powerful presence and professional acting abilities, then the outstanding playwright Abdullah Rashid, one of the great pillars of the UAE stage.

These people were theater people before they became managers, and because they were theater people, they knew the stage, the curtain, and efficiency best, as our Arabic proverb says: “The people of Mecca know their paths best.”

I have special respect for these playwrights, who are known for their cultural integrity and their love for the literature and culture of the UAE and the Arab world, and who are indeed doing exhausting work that requires time, concentration and objective critical comparisons from one theatre company to another, from one text to another, from one theatre performance to another.

It is a very tiring job but it is also beautiful work for beautiful artists, this aesthetic is not a constructive word here but when we talk about theatre in the UAE, it has a moral status in its evaluative context, it is art human beauty just like poetry, prose, painting, music and singing.

Emirati audiences have bestowed the beautiful title of theatre people, and Emirati artists have upheld this title, presenting 100% Emirati theatre that carries the spirit of the environment, place and history.

Emirati theatre is a theatre of heritage, sea and desert, it is based on local popular texts and then this local theatre is based on the classical Arabic language, the language of literature, the language of poetry and the language of Arabic history. Theatre also encounters international experiences which are recycled or prepared to suit Emirati theatre and its local characteristics.

All these facts are better known to my dear reader than to me. The reader is also a theatre-goer and knows that this Emirati theatre culture was created and deepened by (Sharjah Theatre Days) … (Al-Ayyam), which from the 1980s to date has transformed into an Emirati Arab theatre school with characteristics, traditions and standards, and its artistic, critical and intellectual aspects are known to the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Al-Ayyam Festival, which has been working collectively since then. Therefore, this summer, the theatre companies will have a long time to work calmly and professionally.

The era of Sharjah Theatre was and still is the spiritual “academy” for young playwrights, especially those in the UAE, as their souls are attached to drama. Dozens of playwrights have graduated from this “academy” for about 35 years and they are the pillars of the UAE’s art community today.
