Seton Hall Dean Emeritus Boroff Receives Fulbright Scholar Award; Will Teach and Conduct Research in Spain

Karen Boroff, Professor of Management and Dean Emeritus, Harvard University Stillman School of Business exist Seton Hall Universityhas received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award and will travel to Madrid, Spain for the spring 2025 semester. Boroff, who has worked at Seton Hall for more than 35 years, will draw on her expertise in management, human resources, labor relations and negotiation to showcase her expertise in the Fulbright program, “Leadership, Creativity, Collaboration: Translating Concepts into Practice.” Polytechnic University of Madridlocated in Madrid, Spain.

UPM is Innsbruck Management Center In Austria, Boroff served as a visiting professor and maintained a good relationship with Seton Hall University.

The program will work to equip leaders with change management capabilities as all higher education institutions seek to adapt to the changing academic landscape.

Boroff has been in discussion with her faculty collaborator and mentor, Isabel Ortiz-Marcos, a mechanical engineer with a PhD in industrial engineering from UPM and associate professor of engineering projects and project management at UPM. Ortiz has also been a certified professional project manager from the Project Management Institute since 2006.

“Dr. Boroff’s leadership learning modules will provide additional resources for students who want to improve their team leadership skills,” Ortiz said. “In addition, I look forward to working with her to prepare a case study in Spanish and English for submission to the June case study conference and eventual publication. More broadly, UPM hopes to identify additional ways for our institution to collaborate with Seton Hall University.”

This spring break, one such collaboration will provide Seton Hall students with the opportunity to participate in an international trip.

“Students can be Madrid residents for a week at our university, which is one of the best in Spain,” Boroff said.

She added that the two institutions hope to sign a collaborative agreement to enhance the educational experience of the students they serve and to facilitate the exchange of faculty and administrators. Similar to the School of Management’s MCI agreement in destination and event management, they are exploring an articulation agreement between the two institutions and potential hybrid exchanges for an academic certificate in fashion design, a hybrid engineering and entrepreneurship certificate, and other potential programs.
