Service was spotty but there was extra legroom

The cabin is laid out 2-3-2, with a separate cabin between Business and Economy with 32 Comfort+ seats (passengers also get priority boarding). My aisle seat (17E) is the same width as an Economy seat (18.1 inches; 46 cm), but has 35 inches of legroom (89 cm, 10 inches more than standard Economy). That doesn’t sound like much, but it means a lot on a flight of this length. At 178 cm tall, my knees are far enough away from the seat in front of me that I can cross my legs comfortably. It also means my seatmate can pass without me having to perform some Cirque du Soleil-style hip twist.

Entertainment + Technology

Over five hours, you’ll have little trouble navigating the more than 1,000 hours of free in-flight entertainment, including new releases, numerous TV box sets, Spotify playlists and games. The 23cm touchscreen is plenty big, and the earphones are free. International plug sockets, USB charging ports and free Wi-Fi are also available for SkyMiles members, and are available throughout the flight.

It was a good cop versus bad cop confrontation: one attendant was smiling and helpful; the other was accusatory (“Why were you taking pictures of our snacks?”).

Aside from a few free snacks (pretzels, chips, nuts and crackers), everything else had to be purchased. The bad cop told me the menu was on the entertainment system, which wasn’t the case, but I ended up ordering a chicken croissant sandwich for $12 (the other option was a cheese platter) which was good and came with some sliced ​​fruit and Ghirardelli chocolates. Another upgrade is that Comfort+ passengers get free beer, spirits and canned wine.

The 5.5-hour journey from Los Angeles to New York can be grueling, especially if you’ve just flown for 14 hours from Australia. If you want a little more comfort and convenience but don’t want to spend a fortune on business class or premium economy (which aren’t always available on this route), Comfort+ is worth checking out.
