Senegalese Tax Authority and Senegalese Customs hold the tenth bilateral meeting

The meeting was attended by distinguished representatives of various ministries and institutions of both the Gambia and Senegal, including officials from the Ministries of Finance and Trade, Ports Authority, Transport Union, Chamber of Commerce, Gambia High Commission in Dakar and the Senegal-Gambia Secretariat.

The Director General of the Senegalese Customs Administration, Dr. Mbaye Njie, extended a warm welcome to the Gambian delegation, stressing the long-standing friendship between the two countries. He reiterated his commitment to upholding the bilateral agreement between the two countries.

In his speech, Director General Yankuba Dabo stressed the need for both governments to intensify efforts to combat illegal trade and smuggling. He stressed the need to maintain vigilance in border controls through regular patrols, in addition to adhering to approved trade routes.

Governor Dubbo encouraged officials to actively participate in bilateral discussions to share experiences and challenges with a view to coming up with practical recommendations. He pledged full support for the implementation of any recommendations arising from the meeting.

Furthermore, Director General Dabo highlighted how the implementation of SIGMAT would strengthen cross-border trade management, enhance trade cooperation in Senegambia, facilitate the free movement of goods and people, while strengthening national security.

The two Directors-General concluded the opening ceremony by thanking the Governments of The Gambia and Senegal and all participants for their contribution and commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between their two countries.
