Senegal takes a decisive step towards energy independence

The initiative for the plant came from influential figures in the Senegalese private sector. Former Energy Minister Samuel Sarr was one of the main architects of the project, along with Harouna Dia, Moustapha Ndiaye, Abdoulaye Dia from Senico, and Khadim Ba from Locafrique. These investors showed exemplary patriotism by mobilizing the funds needed to build this critical infrastructure.

The WAE plant is the first in Senegal to be fully privately funded by the state. Today’s opening marks a new era in the country’s electricity supply.
