Libreville, Wednesday, August 28, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The decision of the Head of State aims to increase transparency and restore trust within the company, ensuring public services of drinking water and electricity throughout the country.
The Gabonese Energy and Water Company (SEEG) will be managed provisionally by the next Council of Ministers. This was announced yesterday in press release No. 65 of the Institutional Transition and Recovery Commission (CTRI), which justified this decision by General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema, citing the deterioration of the entity’s services.
“Water and electricity are basic human and social needs. The satisfaction of these basic needs has been problematic for years, and at the same time, the national operator, the Société Energie et Eau de Gabon (SEEG), has been caught in a multifaceted crisis that has led to supply cuts and load shedding, ignoring the patience of users who have reached their limit,” explained Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi.
And added: “Besides the delays in infrastructure, it is clear that the situation at SEEG is first and foremost due to weaknesses and management failures”.
A CTRI spokesperson said that this situation prompted the transitional president to take measures that are in the general interest of the people. In addition, a thorough revision of the SEEG organizational chart was announced to make room for the technical profile. The company will now have 14 directors instead of the current 51, supported by 21 department managers.
If the salary reduction of senior managers is also planned to be applied to the interim government at a new rate, the interests and social rights of workers will not be affected. That is, there will be no reduction in personnel and the salaries of agents will not be affected.
In addition, SEEG will establish a security and anti-fraud unit, which will be led by a member of CTRI.
The strong statement came as a relief to SEEG agents and users who were looking to the authorities for a lasting solution to this thorny issue.
