The family sent a distress signal to the Coast Guard, which notified nearby vessels of the vessel’s location. A vessel, the Salty Sea, responded and rescued four people from a life raft who were uninjured.
The rescued people were four other people who were on the boat with the Maynards that day. The report did not explain why the Maynards did not take the life raft with the others. The identities of the four rescued people have not yet been made public.

The Coast Guard is searching the wreck site, about 25 kilometers west of Homer Point, using a helicopter, an airplane and three boats, along with help from Good Samaritans and Alaska Wildlife Troopers.

Although the official search has been called off, relatives of the Maynards are still hoping to bring them home.

Mary Maynard, 37, is a traveling nurse, and her husband, David Maynard, 42, is a stay-at-home dad who runs a lawn care company. According to Christy Wells, who spoke on behalf of Mary Maynard’s parents, the family is passionate about traveling.
Their sons, Colton and Brantley, play football and baseball.
