Saudi Arabia and China cooperate to build engineering plastics factory

With the support of the Ministry of Energy, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) yesterday signed a potential investment agreement with the Fujian Provincial Government. To build a plant to produce engineering thermoplastic compounds in Fujian Province, China. The agreement was announced at the Ministry of Energy headquarters in the presence of Zhu Xue, Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Assistant Minister of Energy. The agreement was signed by Sami Al-Osaimi, Executive Vice President of SABIC Polymers, and Ma Changjian, Deputy Director of the Development Committee of the Fujian Guli Port Economic Development Zone.

This new investment confirms SABIC’s commitment to meeting local Chinese customer needs by offering unique and innovative solutions, while strengthening the company’s position in the Chinese market and its contribution to advancing sustainable development and improving quality in the chemical industry.

Engineer Al-Faqih said: “This agreement represents another milestone in SABIC’s development in China and reflects our continued confidence in investing in China. The project aims to enhance our ability to supply composite products and serve this strategically important market. The new plant is located in the Guli Port Economic Development Zone, Changzhou City, Fujian Province, and will mainly produce a range of LEXANTM and CYCOLOYTM polycarbonate materials for the manufacture of advanced composite materials. Materials designed to meet the needs of a wide range of industrial fields such as electrical, consumer electronics and automotive, as well as emerging fields such as solar energy, power operation and fifth-generation technology.
