Are they so satisfied with their electric car that they would recommend this particular brand to someone they know or their family? That’s how the consulting firm asked just under 5,000 owners about their batteries. The differences were extreme.

Owners of some brands are particularly picky about their electric cars, while owners of other brands are the opposite. They are very satisfied and will not hesitate to recommend their electric cars to others.

Consulting firm Upscale surveyed 4,966 electric car owners in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, asking them how satisfied they were with a particular brand of car and what percentage of them rated “recommendability” above. On the other hand, would they not recommend the car to others?

The company conducted the survey between May and July this year, the fifth time in a row. As he cited Industry magazine Automotive Week The head of Upscale, the brand with the best evaluation, Tesla in the United States, was praised by users for its mileage, fuel consumption, performance and software. However, they criticized its processing quality, equipment quality and noise reduction.

Following Tesla, the best performing brand was Porsche, which now offers the all-electric Macan in addition to the electric Taycan. BMW performed well in third place. “Owners rated the i7 and i5 models very well, while the smaller models performed poorly,” Automobilwoche reported.

Sister car company Mini, however, fared poorly in the rankings, with 44% of owners not recommending the electric model. However, the brand will launch a new generation of the electric Mini Cooper and the larger Countryman this year.

Korean car manufacturers Kia and Hyundai excel with 800-volt in-car technology, as they can be charged quickly and repeatedly on the go. Owners of cars like Volvo and its sister brand Polestar, though they criticize the relatively high consumption of these cars, according to studies, especially software problems (such as the EX30 model).

Skoda’s Enyaq was roughly in the middle of the pack, with 41% of current owners of the car being willing to recommend it, while 15% wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else. These figures are very similar to Ford’s.

Next up is Chinese brand BYD, as well as Volkswagen and Cupra, where the proportion of recommended brands remains high. But then the situation for the others starts to go downhill.

Among owners of electric Renaults, the experience varies, but for Audi and especially Nissan, those who do not recommend the brand have prevailed. The Dacia Spring model fared even worse due to extremely slow charging. The second Chinese brand, MG, also did not fare very well, with 35% of owners not recommending it and 17% being satisfied. This means that half of the owners did not know how to answer.

Stellantis even has three brands that share technology. This is about Opel, with 54% of owners not recommending it and only 10% would, Citroen fares even worse (59% vs. 4%), while Peugeot is at the bottom. 62% of respondents would not recommend its electric cars, with only 3% saying yes. According to the study, owners are not satisfied with the range, consumption, controls or software.

Automotive Week But he noted that demand from electric car owners is increasing year by year, as evidenced by the above study.”Last year, 31% of respondents were very satisfied with a range of 400 kilometers in the summer, but this year only 22% are satisfied. Significantly improve charging performance. In 2023, 28% are very happy with 150 kW, now it’s only 20%,” he said.

For smaller and cheaper models, users now expect charging powers of up to around 150 kW, while for more expensive and larger models, which should also be able to handle longer routes and greater range, charging powers of around 200 kW or more are now seen as the norm.

A fully functional mobile app is also crucial for electric car owners. If it is haphazardly programmed, frequently breaks down, or used improperly, the reputation of the car itself can be greatly negatively affected.
