A comic book camp in Saskatoon is encouraging children and teens to explore their creativity.
This year marks the first year the Saskatchewan Cooperative Association is hosting the event.
The idea for summer camps came from young people who wanted to do something unique and fun during the summer.
Children are being encouraged to be creative at a local comic book camp, the first of its kind hosted by the Saskatchewan Cooperative Society.

“Some local artists are working with young people to teach them the basics of comics. Like, how to storyboard, how to create a comic from start to finish, (and) color theory,” said Krystal Nieckar, director of strategic initiatives at the Saskatchewan Cooperative Association.
Senior artist Luna O’Connell draws on her approximately five years of comic book experience to teach the course.

“It’s been really fun working with everyone and helping them learn the skills to write and draw comics,” O’Connell said.
At the end of camp, each camper will be able to publish an anthology that they can take home.
Nickell hopes the camp will be successful and become an annual event.
