Brigadier General Celestine Kanyamahanga was received at the headquarters of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense accompanied by Rwandan Ambassador to the country Emmanuel Manzi.
The leaders were welcomed by the deputy director for strategic operations at the ministry, Major General José Ricardo Menezes Rocha, the Rwandan defence ministry announced.
During the talks, the leaders of both sides focused on further strengthening the defense cooperation between the two countries.
In addition to their mutual commitment to development cooperation, Rwanda and Brazil have maintained common relations in many ways, with the signing last October of an agreement that includes the transfer of persons sentenced by the courts and the extension of visas to those holding diplomatic travel documents and those holding diplomatic passports.
The agreement was signed by then Foreign Minister Dr. Vincent Biruta and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vera.
Their talks included the two countries’ determination to develop cooperation in areas such as agriculture, trade, investment and air travel.
Rwanda’s relationship with Brazil is what it is today because the two countries started diplomatic cooperation in 1981. The fact that Rwanda opened an embassy in Brazil, the first to open an embassy in South America (Latin America), also strengthened the relationship.
