Putin now relies on trusted old advisers when it comes to conducting armed conflict. He has instructed his former personal bodyguard, State Council Secretary Alexei Dyumin, to be his “eyes and ears” to monitor operations aimed at “expelling Ukrainian troops from the Kursk region.”
