Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov holds talks with Senegalese President and Minister of African Integration in Dakar
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov was received by Senegalese President Basilou Diomaye Faye in Dakar on Wednesday.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two sides discussed joint projects in the fields of energy, mining and mineral processing.
“The two sides also intensively examined issues such as increasing the scale of trade, economic and investment partnership, improving contractual and legal frameworks, and implementing promising joint projects in the fields of geological exploration, mineral extraction and processing, energy, fisheries and agriculture,” the ministry added.
Bogdanov also held talks with Senegalese Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs Yassine Fall.
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that during the meeting a number of issues related to further strengthening friendly relations between Russia and Senegal were discussed in detail.
The two sides attached particular importance to the sustainable development of Russian-African cooperation in view of the results of the second Russian-African summit to be held in St. Petersburg in July 2023. In addition, the two sides discussed preparations for the ministerial meeting of the Russian-African Partnership Forum scheduled for November in Sochi.
Bogdanov, together with representatives of the Senegalese government, attended the official opening ceremony of the headquarters of the Russian-African-Eurasia Chamber of Commerce and Investment in Dakar, which aims to establish a partnership with the Russian non-governmental organization “Coordinating Committee for Economic Cooperation with African Countries”.
The Russian Embassy in Senegal reported that the diplomat had conveyed a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Basilou Diomaye Faye, but the specific content of the message was not disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Sunday appointed the Senegalese president to mediate talks with military leaders of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, aimed at restoring stability in the region since the three countries left ECOWAS in January.
At the ECOWAS summit in Abuja, Nigeria, Omar Allie Touré, chairman of the ECOWAS Commission, declared that Faye “has all the qualifications to act as mediator.” Faye became the youngest African leader to chair ECOWAS in April this year.
