Moscow (for you) – The Russian Foreign Ministry today announced restrictions on the publication of 81 European media outlets in response to the European Union’s ban on two Russian newspapers and one agency from operating within its territory.

The ministry’s statement on the RT website included the following statement: “This step was taken in response to the EU’s ban on the Russian news agency and the Russian newspapers Izvestia and Rossiyskaya Gazeta.”

The statement also said that “the Russian side has repeatedly warned at all levels that politically motivated harassment against Russian journalists and the EU’s unjust ban on Russian media will not go unanswered… Despite this, the statement from Brussels and European capitals said that the alliance countries chose to escalate tensions, leading to “retaliatory measures from Moscow.”

The statement said that responsibility for developments lies with the EU leadership and EU countries that supported such decisions, noting that Moscow would reconsider its measures if sanctions on Russian media were lifted.

Russia’s sanctions list includes magazines and newspapers from countries including Germany, Spain, Italy and France.
