Russia is ready to launch nuclear missiles at European targets. The Financial Times reported this based on secret documents in its possession. The documents show that Russia has trained a fleet to launch nuclear missiles deep into Europe in the event of a potential conflict with NATO.
Even before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the military provided NATO officials with maps of potential targets. Some were as far away as the west coast of France and Barrow-in-Furness in the UK.
The documents, compiled between 2008 and 2014, reveal how Russia envisioned a conflict with the West and planned a series of sweeping strikes on Western Europe. The secret documents, which included lists of missile targets, were compiled between 2008 and 2014.
The publication notes that the maps are for demonstration purposes only and are not intended for operational use. They reflect 32 NATO objectives in Europe:
Meanwhile, William Albergh, a former NATO official now at the Stimson Center, said the sample was just a small fraction of the main targets in Europe.
Their concept of warfare is total war… They see these things (tactical nuclear warheads) as potential victory weapons. They want to use them as quickly as possible,” said Jeffrey Lewis.
