Today, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that 21 Ukrainian drones were shot down over its territory in the past 24 hours in light of the ongoing fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces on multiple fronts.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed Ukrainian drones in the Kursk, Ryazan, Belgorod, Rostov, Bryansk and Lipetsk regions.
Meanwhile, Kiev announced earlier that its missile forces had bombed a Russian military airport in Crimea, the latest in a series of targeted strikes by Moscow on the peninsula, which it annexed in 2014, when the airport was being used to launch long-range attacks.
The Russian airfield in Saki, western Crimea, has been the latest target of an explosion, the Ukrainian Army General Staff said in a statement, adding that the results were being assessed.
The authorities continued, “This is one of the operational airports used by Russia to control the airspace, especially over the Black Sea, and to launch air strikes on Ukrainian territory.”
Ukraine has stepped up its long-range offensive against Crimea in recent months and said the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet, based in Sevastopol, had been forced to move its warships to safer ports elsewhere.
Recently, the pace of Ukrainian drones targeting Russia has accelerated. The impact is no longer limited to border areas such as Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk, but has expanded to the southwest of the country. Russia plans to take measures including doubling drone production, which will continue to intensify the drone war between the two sides.
