More than 40 Russian firefighters were injured while trying to put out a fuel depot fire after a Ukrainian drone attack in the southwestern Russian city of Proletarsk, local authorities said today.
A state of emergency has been declared in this city in the Rostov region, where industrial facilities have been affected by fires for the second day in a row, the Proletarian regional government announced earlier.
“Currently, 41 firefighters have been examined at the region’s central hospital,” regional governor Vasily Golubev said on Telegram.

He added: “Eighteen of them had to be hospitalized, five of them in intensive care.”
The governor announced earlier that additional resources had been sent to try to contain the fire, although “conditions are very difficult because of the intense heat.”
Yesterday, the governor said the fire was caused by debris falling after “air defence forces repelled a drone attack” and no one was injured.
A source in Ukraine’s military intelligence service (GUR) confirmed to AFP on Sunday that the drones had attacked the Caucasus fuel and oil products storage facility in Proletarsk.
According to the source, the facility is supplying Russia’s “military-industrial complex.”
Proletark is a city of nearly 20,000 residents, about 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and about 350 kilometers from the Kiev-controlled combat zone on the eastern front of Ukraine.
Since the conflict broke out in 2022, Kiev has repeatedly targeted oil and gas facilities in Russia, some of which are hundreds of kilometers from the Ukrainian border, in what it calls “just” retaliation for attacks on its energy infrastructure.
The drone strikes come as Ukraine has been waging an unprecedented cross-border offensive in Russia’s Kursk region for nearly two weeks, with Ukraine saying it controls more than 80 locations in the region.
