The former New York City mayor turned lawyer for Donald Trump now risks losing all his assets for his involvement in the defamation of two Georgia election workers following the 2020 U.S. presidential election. He has a good relationship with Rudy Giuliani.
Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the mother and daughter who were falsely accused by Giuliani and successfully sued him last year, today filed a request in federal court to transfer control of Giuliani’s assets so that the judgment can be enforced.
Freeman and Moss, who accused Giuliani in the filing of evading responsibility for his actions for years through aborted and unsuccessful bankruptcy filings, say they can now finally get paid after his latest bankruptcy case was dismissed.
Lawyers for Freeman and Moss wrote in their filing: “Now that Mr. Giuliani’s bankruptcy case has been dismissed, Plaintiffs are finally able to obtain some measure of recovery through enforcement of the judgment. In this motion, Plaintiffs request two remedies to which they are entitled under New York law: an order requiring Mr. Giuliani to surrender personal property owned by him in satisfaction of the judgment and an order appointing Plaintiffs as receivers with the right to take possession and sell the real and personal property owned by Mr. Giuliani, none of which shall pass.”
Last December, Giuliani was ordered to pay Freeman and Moss nearly $150 million in damages. He has since tried to file for bankruptcy, lost his accountant due to insurmountable debt, and even asked Trump for help to pay his huge legal bills. Trump refused to do so. His radio show on WABC was canceled due to the spread of misinformation about the 2020 election, and he even launched his own coffee brand, Rudy Coffee, in an effort to generate additional income. All in vain.
However, despite his financial problems, Giuliani continued his expensive lifestyle. In May, his creditors criticized him for ‘Luxury lifestyle’ And accuse him ‘Serious mismanagement’which led to the dismissal of his bankruptcy case in July. A New York judge called him the “first ‘Reluctant Debtor’.
In addition, Giuliani is facing a lawsuit from a former lawyer who claims that Giuliani did not pay his legal fees in full. He only paid $214,000 of the nearly $1.6 million in fees. Giuliani claims that he was defrauded of millions of dollars by his biggest client, Trump.
Giuliani’s legal troubles have continued to grow as he is also one of 19 co-defendants in a Georgia election interference case. In addition, he was named in an April indictment in Arizona that accused several Republican officials and Trump allies of participating in a scheme to overturn the results of the state’s 2020 presidential election.
