Romania is confident that Moldova will join the European Community in 2030, according to Moldova1.md

In Chisinau, the Bucharest leaders confirmed Romania’s support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in such important areas as energy security, defense and infrastructure modernization.

The declaration signed by Maia Sandu and Klaus Iohannis states that “the Republic of Moldova belongs to the European Union”. The document reflects the determination of both countries to support the Republic of Moldova’s efforts to become a member of the European Union by 2030 and to work closely together to counter any external interference that could undermine this process.

The joint statement also stressed the importance of maintaining regional security and stability. The two countries pledged to develop military cooperation in order to strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s defense potential and increase its institutional and social resilience in the face of external threats.

Against the backdrop of the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, Romania and the Republic of Moldova have pledged to simultaneously prioritize energy projects and diversify sources of energy supply.

“I congratulate you on your success in the European family to which you belong. You have worked a lot for this, but you have also felt the benefits in the economy, in infrastructure, in education. I want to assure you that we will continue to help you, including in the energy sector. (…) From this podium, I call on all international partners to support the Republic of Moldova and its citizens,” added Klaus Iohannis.

Romania has been the main trading partner of the Republic of Moldova for more than a decade, and political relations between the two countries have been strengthening in recent years. The neighboring country also provided assistance to the Republic of Moldova during the COVID-19 pandemic and responded to the crisis caused by the war that broke out in Ukraine. Bucharest is also a supporter of the reconciliation process between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.

In recent years, the Chisinau government, with the support of international partners including Romania, has built more than 700 kilometers of roads, invested 3 billion lei in hospital modernization, and 500 million lei in the reconstruction of educational institutions.
