Roger Stoner won the men’s discus today, giving Jamaica its first gold medal of the Paris Olympics.
The 25-year-old threw an Olympic record 70.00m on his fourth attempt to win the gold medal in record-breaking fashion.
World record holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania won the silver medal with a score of 69.97 meters.
Australia’s Matthew Denny won bronze with a time of 69.31, a championship best.
Jamaica’s other representatives in the final, Traves Smikle, finished ninth with 65.61m, while Ralford Mullings was 10th with 64.97m.
