Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has suspended his campaign and endorsed Republican White House candidate Donald Trump. He will make the announcement during a speech in Arizona, news agencies reported.
“I am not ending my campaign. I am simply suspending it,” Kennedy said. He added that he had initiated a process that would remove his name from the list of candidates in 10 U.S. states that are often crucial to the outcome of presidential elections. “I no longer believe in my heart that I have a realistic path to electoral victory,” Kennedy said.
In an effort to end his candidacy in so-called swing states, which are not longtime strongholds of one major party or another but are often decisive in the U.S. electoral system, Kennedy decided not to contribute to the victory won by Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the November election. Instead, Kennedy hopes to keep his name on the ballot in states that have traditionally been Democratic strongholds.
Trump was scheduled to speak at a campaign rally in Glendale, Arizona, hours later, and his campaign said he would be a “special guest” at the event. The Trump campaign did not respond to questions from The Associated Press about whether Kennedy had been invited.

He is committed to protecting the environment and has publicly opposed vaccinations and supported some conspiracy theories during the covid-19 pandemic. He originally wanted to challenge President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination but later switched to running as an independent.
In recent days, the US media has speculated that Kennedy will support Trump and end his campaign, as Kennedy’s running mate Nicole Shanahan hinted in an interview. The Associated Press reported that Kennedy’s campaign team has asked to be removed from the list of candidates in Pennsylvania.
