The first of seven planned closures will begin on I/18 between Strečná and Dubna skála on Saturday at 2pm. Repair work on the slope above a critical section of the road will require a complete closure to traffic for about 30 hours. Crossing the Strečná Channel will be possible again from 7pm on Sunday 11 August.
From 7:00am, traffic on a roughly one kilometre long stretch will be restricted to one lane and controlled by traffic lights. Once the full road closure ends, the passage will be two-way until 7:00am on Monday 12 August, when single lane traffic restrictions will be in place again.
Truck drivers crossing the border near Trnava towards eastern Slovakia have been warned to take the R1 motorway to Zvolen and then the D1 motorway via Donovaly to Ružomberok. Passenger vehicles most often use the detour route through Terchová along road II/583.
After the Rajecký marathon on Saturday, you can take the I/64 route to Martin from 2:00 pm via the Rajecká dolina, Fačkov and Nitrianske Pravno passes.
The repair of the unstable slope on the one-kilometer-long section of road I/18 through Strečnianská úžina will cost approximately EUR 3.5 million. The contractor has committed to completing the agreed scope of work by the end of November.
Additional full closures of I/18 are planned for August 17-18, August 24-25, September 7-8, September 14-15, September 21-22, and September 28-29.
