Operatives of the Rivers State Police have arrested a man at the Omoku Council Headquarters in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
Police officers of the command identified the suspect as Felix Nwaobokata, saying he was a former commander of the local vigilante group popularly known as ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Council (OSPAC).
The state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday.
She said Nwa Obokata was arrested along with three others for allegedly kidnapping a member of the Hausa community in Omoku.

Grace said the arrest was part of a crackdown on excesses of OSPAC in Omoku and other parts of the state.
The statement read: “The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a crackdown on atrocities committed by vigilante groups in the state.
“This follows numerous complaints received about the operations of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee in different parts of the state, mainly in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, and the vigilante group clashing with other security agencies.

“On May 9, 2024, the Chairman of the ONELGA Hausa Indigenous Group, Alhaji Usman Seleh, reported that OSPAC had abducted a member of his group. He then reported the matter to the police. The police then invited the ONELGA OSPAC Commander, Felix Nwaobakata, but he repeatedly refused to accept the invitation.
“Instead, the OSPAC group coordinated an attack on the Omoku police station but the attack was foiled as the police repelled them.
“Following this, tactical troops of the command raided ONELGA OSPAC camp in Omoku and arrested Cheta Benjamin, Joshua Ekwosa, Innocent Ahiakwu and four others.
“ONELGA OSPAC Commander Felix Nwaobakata was arrested on June 17, 2024 at his hideout in Omoku when two human skulls and human bones were found in his possession.
“The arrested OSPAC commander, Felix Nwaobakata, is also the prime suspect in the murder of two brothers, Collins Ugorji (32) and Newman Ugorji (39), of the Idu ethnic group in ONELGA.”
