The event was held on the eve of the 5th World Nomad Games
On the eve of the 5th World Nomad Games, Kazakhstan will host the international marathon “Tour of the Steppes” for the first time from September 3 to 7, 2024.
Teams from more than 10 countries, including Iran, Turkey, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa and the Russian Federation, are expected to participate in this major sporting event.
In particular, the Kyrgyz team held a multi-day equestrian marathon with the aim of selecting the best horses for the “Journey to the Steppes”.
Manas Sultanov, vice president of the Kyrgyzstan Equestrian Federation, said that the Kyrgyz team is very honored to accept the invitation to participate in the Marathon Baig “Around the Steppe” event.
“In preparation for the Kazakh Steppe Derby, a 300-km multi-day marathon qualifying race “Kochmondor Zhurushu” was held. I wish good luck to every team and as many winners as possible. I wish success to the most tenacious and impulsive ones,” said Mr. Sultanov.
The Bayig Marathon starts on September 3 in the settlement of Botai in the North Kazakhstan region, where horses were first domesticated more than 5,000 years ago.
The national team of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic is also preparing to participate in the “Journey to the Steppes”. Ahed Makhov, founder of the AMD Caucasus Equestrian Club, said he had received an invitation to participate in the Kazakhstan Derby.
“It is particularly important that the starting point will be from the settlement of Botai, which is considered a sacred and holy place for all humanity. The team will be happy to visit these places full of legends and historical artifacts. Wait for us, Kazakhstan!”, said A. Makhov.
The horse racing event will end on September 7 in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Its winner will participate in the opening ceremony of the 5th World Nomad Games on September 8.
“Journey to the Prairie” is a prairie laboratory for identifying strong horse breeds.
