Libreville, Monday, July 8, 2024 (Gabon News) – The Directorate General for Debt (DGD) held last Friday in Libreville a capacity-building workshop for Gabonese debt journalists.
After the controversy and debate about the debt, which has sometimes spread in the media and on the web, the Ministry of Economy and Participation has decided to equip communicators with this training so that they can give the public a clear and broad vision in this area of finances.
According to the organizers, “this seminar aims to provide journalists with tools that will allow them to better understand certain peculiarities related to Gabon’s debt situation”. These elements should allow them to “better deal with economic news in a context where there are sometimes problems of interpretation and understanding”.
The Minister of Economy and Investment, who attended the training, focused on the important issue of debt in his speech.

For the member of the government, the traditional debt is one of the things that Gabon manages in a particularly transparent way. According to him, this debt is managed only by the ministry responsible for the economy, through the DGD. You have to distinguish it from other debts.
In order to clarify public opinion and avoid confusion, he clarified that debts of non-agreement parties, especially the Ministry of Finance, VAT debts, wage arrears, etc. are not part of his service responsibility.
