The Rennell and Bellona Honiara communities celebrated the province’s 31st Second Designated Day in Honiara today.

On the day, the floats paraded from Lawson Tama to the National Auditorium, where the official program was held.

Speaking at the event, John Tuhaika Junior, MP for Rennell and Bellona, ​​said the celebration was a time to reflect on the province’s achievements.

“Before we move forward, we should sit down and reflect on what we have achieved in the past 31 years, what opportunities we have seized and capitalised on, or what challenges we have overcome,” said Honourable Tuhaika.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the organising committee, Rev. Johnny Tangokona, said the theme of the celebration also depicts a new beginning for the province.

“The theme of this year’s celebration is that we want to portray a new beginning. A new beginning means that our people should put aside any differences that they may have among themselves.”

Pastor Tango Kona noted that “there are new leaders in both the national and provincial governments, which shows that the people of Rennell and Bellona are looking for change, for something new, a new beginning.”

Six (6) beauty pageant contestants also participated in the celebration.

The event ended successfully with a cultural performance.
