Madrid (Euronews) – Relatives and friends of the hostages taken by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the attack on October 7 on Israeli territory that left 1,200 dead have returned this Thursday morning, blocking the main roads leading to the city of Tel Aviv to demand that the Israeli government reach an agreement that would allow them to return to their homes.
Protesters staged protests across the country, recalling that the authorities had completed “300 days of abandonment” amid fears that the conflict after the murder in Tehran would intensify and expand to other parts of the region. Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh blamed Israel for the attack.
Egyptian and Qatari authorities, mediators in talks between Israel and Hamas, have warned that attacks targeting Hamas and Hezbollah leaders this week undermine efforts to reach a deal that would include a ceasefire and the release of hundreds of hostages in Gaza.
Einav Zangauker, whose son Matan is currently being held in Gaza, said his son and “114 other hostages were abandoned in a Hamas tunnel because (Prime Minister) Benjamin Netanyahu kept delaying a deal.”
“We are one step away from a war on multiple fronts, we need to reach an agreement on the hostages, bring our loved ones home, reach an agreement in the north, allow the displaced to return home, so that we can breathe again,” he said, according to information collected by Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
Matan’s sister, Natalie Zangauker, asked the Netanyahu government to “stop sabotaging” a possible deal.
