Hidalgo, a 55-year-old man, was found dead on Friday in his home in San Vicente de Chires, in San José de Priscal, the Judicial Investigation Bureau (OIJ) reported.
Hidalgo had not been seen since August 18, so his relatives searched for him at his home and found his body, badly decomposed, with wounds allegedly caused by a stabbing weapon.
On Friday, a homicide occurred in Limoncienneguita, where a 36-year-old man named Ortiz was stopped while driving. Several people got out of another car and attacked it with what appeared to be 9mm guns.
Ortiz suffered multiple injuries to his neck, chest, arms and back. He was transferred to Limon’s Tony Facio Hospital, where he died shortly after being admitted.

Another crime also occurred in Limon at around 6:27 p.m. in Pacuare Nuevo, where a 23-year-old young man named Brian was attacked by two people on motorcycles on a public road.
Upon realizing the attack, Brian tried to flee and took shelter in a house with its door open, but one of the attackers followed him and shot him in the arm, head and torso. Brian was pronounced dead at the scene, while the perpetrators fled.
According to the latest homicide data released Thursday by the OIJ, Costa Rica has accumulated 560 murders in 2024, 14 fewer than in the same period of 2023. The province with the most homicides is San José, with 149 cases, followed by Limón (113), Puntarenas (105), Alajuela (62), Guanacaste (54), Cartago (50) and Heredia (27).
