British Columbia’s civilian police watchdog is investigating after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said it shot and killed a man who stabbed an officer in Richmond.
According to British Columbia RCMP, the incident happened around 11 p.m. when Richmond firefighters were called to the 9800 block of Glenthorne Drive and found a man burning a sign.
RCMP said the man was “uncooperative” when officers arrived on the scene.

“During the interaction with police, a struggle ensued, resulting in one officer being stabbed and one man being shot by police,” the RCMP said in a news release.
Both the man and the officer were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Richmond RCMP are investigating the initial call and the stabbing, RCMP said.
The Independent Investigations Office will investigate the police’s conduct during the incident.
