Janata Vimukti Peramuna MP Mr. Vijitha Herath attended the inauguration of the Suriya Paluwa North Election Office in the NPP Maharaja constituency this morning (20).
Reporters asked MP Vijita Herat about the video circulating on social media showing Anura Dissanayake shaking hands with Namal Rajapaksa when the presidential candidates came to the Election Commission to submit their nominations, which was like a confirmation.
In response, MP Vijita Herat said that the NPP has been conducting its election campaign very peacefully so far and hopes that it will continue to do so democratically and peacefully after winning the elections.
The reporter further asked what the NPP thought about former MP Ramanayake’s aspirations for the NPP.
Mr. Vijita Herat in his reply said that Ranjan Ramanayake sometimes fought alone against the corrupt system in this country and if he congratulated the NPA, he would accept those greetings with great respect.
The MP further said that the Ranjan Ramanayake incident proved that corruption in the country cannot be stopped through individual struggles and hence public power is needed.
Mr. Vijithe Herath also stressed that Ranjan Ramanayake congratulated Malimawi on his election victory, which made him proud as a political party and was also the strength of his party.
Also, when reporters asked about Mr. Ranjan Ramanayake’s civil rights, the MP said that Ranjan Ramanayake was not a corrupt person or a thug, he was a person who was imprisoned for telling the truth, so he felt that it was the responsibility of the state people’s power to give him civil rights.
