Today, Qatar Television lit a new candle in its sacred journey, celebrating the fifty-third anniversary of its official launch on August 15, 1970, nearly two years after Qatar Radio began broadcasting in 1968.
That day remains etched in the memory of Qatari and Arab audiences, as they are on the verge of the birth of a new Arab screen that will join the ranks of Arab and international television screens and radio channels, conveying to viewers a comprehensive, authentic portrayal of the aspirations and present of the State of Qatar, located on the eastern Gulf coast of the Arab world, and its people, as well as their past, their aspirations, their generosity, their production, their culture, their customs, their traditions, and the wealth of their fathers and grandfathers.
This day constitutes a memory that every citizen and every journalist of the motherland is proud of, it is also a precious and cherished moment for everyone who lives in this wonderful land, especially the hearts of those who witnessed the Qatari screens and its productions for the first time addressing Arab audiences, and for more than fifty years now, she has always been characterized by excellence, dedication, loyalty, talent and success.
The birth of the official national television station and the launch of its broadcasts, various programs and news bulletins came at a time when the media was gaining increasing importance as a modern means of communication and a means of reaching the masses, playing a role in uplifting and moving society by connecting it to various events, developments and developments around the globe through sound, image and honest discourse.
Since that day fifty-three years ago, Qatar TV has become a regular in every household in every region and institution across the country through its news bulletins and news coverage in the fields of politics, economy, religion, culture, sports, science, art and medical programs, as well as Arab and foreign series and films, etc. His creativity, generosity and leadership have shone and distinguished himself on the screens of the Gulf region and the entire Arab world, and his programs and works have won many awards in the field of Arab media competitions.
The television contributes to strengthening the loyalty and sense of belonging of the Qatari people, preserving Arab and Islamic identity, and social and cultural values ​​through various programs and events. It has also established a station for media and journalism students who wish to get to know the Qatari people and enter the field of video broadcasting, providing them with the necessary experience and training to enhance their professional capabilities. It has become a platform for encouraging state cadres to create dramatic and artistic works and various programs.
Qatar Television began broadcasting in black and white in 1970, in color in 1974, and in 1982, channel 237 began broadcasting in English, broadcasting American and Indian series and films, as well as documentaries and humor programs.
It also broadcasts sports matches and important events, noting that the channel ceased broadcasting on July 27, 2014, and opened a television production studio (Studio 4) at Qatar TV in 1981, which was closed 20 years after its opening and became part of the BeIN Sports Building (formerly Al Jazeera Sports Building). In 1998, Channel One began broadcasting via satellites such as Arabsat, Nile Satellite and Hotbird.
Qatar TV, like other national media, has the full patronage of the country’s Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and all heads of Qatar Media Incorporated to carry out its mission efficiently and with excellence, and to continue its journey and develop the programmes and services it offers to its audience.
Qatar TV has gone through many phases and stages of development, the first of which came in 2001 when the format of the station changed in terms of logo, program style, inserts, advertisements, etc. to keep up with the times. It moved to a satellite broadcaster and began to produce historical dramas every year during Ramadan, such as the series “Omar”. In mid-2011, it announced that it would build a new program studio near the TV building. The first program before its official launch was the competition program “Al-Liwan” in Ramadan 2011, after which the production of the program was stopped until it was fully prepared and officially submitted to the Television Work Support and Development Committee.
The second development of Qatar TV was in mid-2011, when a new comprehensive development plan was announced under the supervision of the Television Work Support and Development Committee, and a new building was built near the program studio. It was equipped with the latest international broadcasting equipment.

Qatar TV is considered to be one of the first Arab channels to be equipped with these completely modern equipment and facilities. Another studio has been built in the new building, which is dedicated to broadcasting news bulletins.
Qatar TV’s new programming went on air at 3:30 Doha time on Sunday, December 16, 2012, after the station stopped broadcasting from the old building following a press bulletin. Qatar TV went on air with its new programming at 7:30 on the same day. In terms of format and content, the channel’s logo changed, which is considered the third after the Falcon and Dana logos, new young faces appeared on the screens of the program and news broadcasters, and the channel broadcasts in full HD 1080i format. It is the first Gulf and Arab channel to use this system for unencrypted broadcasts.
Qatar TV has three logos to date, the falcon was the first of them, designed by the then interior designer of Qatar TV, Egyptian Fuad Mohammed Ahmed Shibini, who designed and used the logo of the State of Qatar. From the beginning of Qatar TV’s opening until the end of 2000, the logo featured several complex things: the falcon was the most prominent part of it, expressing Arab originality. The tower is located in the middle part of the logo. The tower was used for terrestrial broadcasting and is still there and can be seen by anyone passing by the TV building. Then the pulley is located at the bottom of the logo, which is used for terrestrial broadcasting. In the past, digital tapes were relied on in television to broadcast video material.
Al Dana was the second logo of Qatar Television, designed by Qatari visual artist Muhammad Ali Abdullah, and was used from early 2001 until December 16, 2012. At that time, television took on a new form, with some changes in size, lighting and screen position, small things that most viewers probably didn’t notice.
The logo design is characterized by the integration of elements in a harmonious and creative way, which are: the main structure of the logo: a circular, arched shape inspired by the traditional decoration used to decorate doors and windows, then the dana (the largest and most expensive pearl) located in the center of the logo, which symbolizes the profession of diver, fathers and grandfathers usually worked in Qatar and the Gulf region, then nine triangles located inside the curved circle, surrounding the dana, they symbolize the number of triangles present in the Qatari flag, then the letter Qaf, when the space in the middle of the logo is occupied – between the decorations of the dana – take two of the top nine triangles, and get the letter (Q), which is the first letter of the name Qatar.
As for the third logo of Qatar TV, the current logo, which was adopted when the new TV was launched on December 16, 2012, is characterized by its extreme simplicity, which contains the name of Qatar in Arabic in bold font, and below it is the English name of Qatar in small font.
