The State of Qatar participated in the work of the Bonn Climate Change Conference (SB60), held from 3 to 13 June in the city of Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany.
The Qatari delegation to the meeting was led by Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al-Sada, assistant undersecretary for climate change at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change said in a statement today that the Qatari delegation attending the meeting stressed the importance of dialogue with stakeholder participation within the Just Transition Action Plan to implement the Paris Climate Agreement, noting that it is very important that the outcome of the negotiations is aligned with the priorities in the development plans of the countries.
She explained that many topics related to climate change were discussed during the meeting, including those related to the outcomes of the Paris Agreement, in particular the initiation of decisions related to adaptation to climate change phenomena, reduction of emissions of gases that cause climate change, and means of supporting the implementation of plans and projects related to adaptation and mitigation, including financing, technology development and transfer, capacity building and transparency.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Qatar’s participation in the conference was supported by many participating countries, and the Qatari delegation, composed of parties from many different countries, effectively participated in the negotiations on all major issues and participated in the conference in a manner that was in line with the national interests and in line with the position of developing countries.
She explained that the importance of these meetings lies in the fact that they are held between the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) and the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29), which is an important stage in terms of its impact on the outcome of the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change (COP 29), which will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, in November next year.
