His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani began an official visit to the Republic of El Salvador, during which he discussed with the President of the Republic of El Salvador, Nayib Armando Bukele, the ways to resolve the problems of the two countries, support and develop them in various fields, in addition to discussing a number of international issues and documents of common interest.
It is expected that the visit of His Highness the Amir to the Republic of El Salvador and the discussions that His Highness will hold there will contribute to the development of relations between Doha and San Salvador, moving both sides towards a broader and new cooperation and partnership that will serve the common interests of the two countries and their friendly peoples.
The State of Qatar and the Republic of El Salvador have an outstanding and growing relationship of friendship and cooperation. The two countries signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations on September 24, 2003. In April 2006, the Republic of El Salvador opened its embassy in Doha, and the State of Qatar opened its embassy in El Salvador in 2009. The relations between the two countries have continued to achieve qualitative development, with frequent visits by officials from both sides.
The two countries have signed a series of agreements and memorandums of understanding regulating their relations in the political, diplomatic, commercial, industrial, financial, cultural, educational, teaching, sports and tourism fields, as well as in civil aviation, cooperation and joint press exchange, as well as coordination between the two countries in international forums such as the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Some Salvadoran officials have attended forums and forums organized by the State of Qatar such as the World Healthcare Innovation Summit.
In December 2019, His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with His Excellency President Najib Bukele at the Sheraton Doha Hotel on the sidelines of the 2019 Doha Forum, during which the two countries’ existing bilateral relations and prospects for their development were reviewed. In a press statement issued in Doha at the time, His Excellency President Najib Bukele explained that his visit to Doha was aimed at strengthening diplomatic, political and commercial relations, as well as cooperation and investment relations with the State of Qatar and participating in the 2019 Doha Forum. He stated that the two countries have yet to fully explore each other’s potential and that El Salvador seeks to cooperate and work with the State of Qatar in various fields, especially in the oil and gas sector, noting that El Salvador has great potential. Oil wealth and needs the cooperation of Qatari companies to benefit from it.
His Excellency the President of El Salvador reviewed the investment opportunities in El Salvador, especially in the agricultural sector, noting that El Salvador is located in the center of the Latin American continent and is the gateway to the Latin American market, and he expressed his desire for Qatar. El Salvador is one of the most stable countries in the region and has signed a free trade agreement with the United States and has good relations with China and countries around the world.
Last March, the second round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries was held in Doha, chaired by Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and Ms. Adriana Mera, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador. In addition to discussing bilateral cooperation, they also discussed some issues of common concern.
As part of the bilateral cooperation, the State of Qatar has provided the Republic of El Salvador with aid, equipment and various medical supplies to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as food and baskets for affected families.
El Espino School opened in the city of Comasagua, in the Republic of El Salvador, with the support of the State of Qatar, after tropical storms, floods and flash floods hit El Salvador in 2011, destroying much of its infrastructure. Last June, the State of Qatar expressed its gratitude to the Republic of El Salvador for its participation in the initiative to plant one million trees in the run-up to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the first carbon-free tournament, and to plant 10 million trees by 2030. El Salvador’s contribution is to provide 125,000 trees per year, for a total of one million trees by 2030.

To strengthen ties with Latin America, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, visited several Latin American countries in 2015, 2016 and 2018, contributing to the extension of bridges with the countries of the continent and opening the door to a multi-track strategic partnership between them and the State of Qatar. His Highness’s visits to these countries also helped strengthen the State of Qatar’s position on the international stage, reflecting a foreign policy of positive openness, humanitarian cooperation and the establishment of long-term, multifaceted and multi-sectoral partnerships. The presence of 14 Latin American embassies in Doha demonstrates the solidity of Qatar’s relations with Latin America and the friendly and harmonious relations between the two sides, especially at the level of national leadership. On March 31, 2009, Doha also hosted the Second Summit of Arab and Latin American Countries, which issued the Doha Declaration in support of strategic relations between the Arab and Latin American regions.
Throughout recent history, Latin America has always maintained close relations with the Arab people, opened its hearts and doors to all Arab peoples without any discrimination, and sympathized with and supported Arab issues, especially the Palestinian issue. In international forums.

It has the world’s most fertile water resources and farmland, as well as large oil reserves in many countries. As well as iron ore and steel products, it also has a quarter of the world’s copper reserves, which will play a vital role in the future market. El Salvador is a mountainous country located in the middle of Central America, bordering the Pacific Ocean to the south, Guatemala to the west, Honduras to the north, and Nicaragua. With an area of ​​21,000 square kilometers, it is the smallest country in Central America, with a population of about 6.4 million.
Its nature is dominated by volcanoes, with 23 dormant volcanoes and 5 volcanic fields, as well as 3 lakes and many rivers. Agriculture is the basis of El Salvador’s economy, providing about two-thirds of the country’s exports and employing one-third of the country’s workforce. It is also one of the most important countries in Central America in the industrial sector, and its most important industries include cotton textiles, sugar and petrochemicals.
El Salvador is politically and economically stable, and has made significant economic progress in the past decade, pushing the economy of El Salvador to a new level. Recent reports show that economic indicators in El Salvador are on an upward trend, which reflects its commitment to promoting a strong and prosperous economy. Poverty rates have decreased, growth rates have increased, and investor confidence has increased, which has strengthened El Salvador’s position as an emerging economic power in the region and beyond. Tourism is also one of the areas that El Salvador is seeking to develop, as it has many beautiful natural monuments as well as archaeological and cultural sites that attract tourists from all over the world.
