Public schools launch campaign on animal ownership and welfare: What does it involve?

he National Animal Welfare Institute （International NBA) begins a national tour in public schools to raise awareness about health and wellness Animal Possession and responsible agricultural production.

The first students to attend the first workshop were from School No. 66 in Santa Monica, Ciudad Plata, and School No. 99 in San Jose Libertad.

As Marcela Delgado, executive director of the National Animal Welfare Institute, explains, the experience consists of two parts: “Starting with audiovisual material with drawings and animations, the children are invited to learn what it is and what INBA does. Then we talk about animal welfare with simple explanations.”

In addition, different categories of animals were introduced – companion animals, pets, production animals, sports animals and native animals. The seminar also discussed five Animal Welfare Freedom“Such as nutrition and hydration, being in an appropriate environment, enjoying good health and emotional well-being, and the freedom to express natural behaviors,” the INBA noted, “in a vocabulary they can understand,” the director mentioned.

In the second condition, the children were invited to play and “have a healthy competition” through a game of INBA Trivia, a quiz game about what they had learned. Through this approach, Delgado detailed how they were learning through play.

Furthermore, to conclude the visit to the sector, a children’s film related to the theme was screened at the House of Cultural Freedom, free of charge and open to the public.

INBA will continue to tour other sectors and facilitate interactions with fourth, fifth and sixth graders in primary schools to raise awareness on responsible animal ownership.
