Pub reprimanded by Ad Council for sexist ad

Anyone who has been to Borkstrasse is certainly familiar with the sign advertising gin in a restaurant there: it features a scantily clad cartoon character with the focus on the bare buttocks, and above it the words “Sweet butt – 3.50”. This is also a reason for public condemnation by the German Advertising Council. The reasons on the Advertising Council’s website are: “The image reduces the sexual appeal of women to a minimum, with the body merely attracting the eye.” The slogan also emphasizes the women’s buttocks, while the indication of the price also implies “the purchasability of the depicted women”. According to the Advertising Council, this is a derogatory and sexist portrayal of women.
