Drop Off, Koror, Palau – In memory of a beloved fisherman, congressman, athlete, youth advocate,
As an active member of the Palau community, the Palau Sport Fishing Association organizes the Tekoi ‘L Beluu Fishing Tournament to honor the life of the late Senator Regis Akitaya.
The state government was asked to sponsor a team for the first-of-its-kind Tekoi ‘L Beluu event.
We thank the following parties for their support:
Representative Frutoso Tellei received two teams from Melekeok, and representative Sebastian Marino

The women’s bottom fishing took second place. The competition attracted fishermen from all over Palau and was very competitive throughout the day. Clear skies and good company allowed the fishermen to perform at their best, and the teams brought back their catches before the deadline. Team Omenged, captained by Clint Madracheluib, brought back a 73.5-pound yellowfin tuna (with full gear, mind you!) and took first place!
The winning teams are as follows:
tuna
1st Place – Team Omenged (Captain Clint Madracheluib) – 73.5 lbs
pike
1st Place – Team Kesewaol (Captain Ivan Blesam) – 28.0 lbs
Women’s bottom fishing
1st Place – Shark Angels (Captain Mathur Scott) – 21.5 pounds
