The Deputy Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), Brigadier General Asaf Nyakikulu, has advised the newly promoted officers to be doubly committed to serving as the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has high expectations of them.
“Promotion is advancement from one’s current rank to the next higher rank and is a significant achievement in a military career. Promotion is a recognition of loyalty, hard work, dedication to duty and leadership,” he said.
Brigadier General Nyakikuru, who is also the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Special Forces Group (2SFG), spoke on August 9, 2024 while presiding over the investiture ceremony of the newly promoted officers at the headquarters of the 10th Marine Battalion in Entebbe.
He called on officers who have not yet been promoted to wait for God’s timing because the timing is always right.

He said that from a biblical perspective, promotion is a favor and reward from God.
“God promotes people at their proper time, not our (humans’) proper time.”
Also, Brigadier-General Nyakikulu told the promoted officers that they had a huge responsibility and they should ensure that they were up to the task when discharging their duties.
“Your subordinates will look up to you as a source of wisdom and you need to provide solutions to their problems and always encourage them to take initiative and act responsibly,” he urged before congratulating the promoted officers for achieving the milestone.

The Commander of the 3rd Special Forces Group (3SFG), Colonel Wilson Bagonza, thanked the President and Commander-in-Chief of UPDF for his vision in transforming the army from a ragtag force to a formidable force that is currently exporting peace and is admired by countries in the region.
“That’s why we’re holding events like this today, because it would be impossible if there was instability.”
Colonel Bagonza also thanked the Chief of Defence Force Staff, General Muhuzi Kenerugaba, for revolutionising the training of the troops.
“He added special training to us, energized the Raiders and got them into the SFC.”
He also thanked the SFC Commandant, Major General David Mugisha, for his continued support for the training.

The Director of Human Resources Management, Special Forces Command, Colonel John Mango Baraza, presented medals to 104 officers of the Special Forces Command who were recently promoted by the President of the Republic of Uganda and the Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
Among the 104 promoted SFC officers, 1 acting colonel was promoted to colonel, 1 lieutenant colonel was promoted to colonel, 1 lieutenant colonel was promoted to lieutenant colonel, 2 majors were promoted to lieutenant colonels, 9 captains were promoted to majors, 7 lieutenants were promoted to captains, and in addition, 83 second lieutenants completed their probation period and were promoted to lieutenants.
Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Agaba, speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, thanked the Commander-in-Chief for giving them the opportunity to serve in UPDF.
She said they may not be the best people in the community but they are given the platform to do their job.
Lt. Col. Agaba also thanked the CDF and CSFC for their continuous guidance. She called on the newly promoted officers to remain disciplined, loyal but most importantly patriotic.
The ceremony was attended by group commanders, brigade commanders, bureau chiefs, commanding officers, commanding officers, staff and members of the Special Operations Command, senior and junior officers, and spouses of the newly promoted officers.
