On August 24, His Majesty the King attended the National Guard training held at Wangdue Phobrang Mkhothangkha and visited the training center.
Mkhothangkha is one of the four defence training centres in the country.

His Majesty the King plans to start the formation of the National Guard from next month to see how prepared the National Guard is for its first training.
His Majesty the King inaugurated the center for modern Bhutanese youths who wish to join the National Guard. He toured the premises of the center which is equipped with facilities and technology.

His Majesty also expressed the importance of providing education and skills to Bhutanese youths. He met with the staff of the National Defense Center.
His Majesty was accompanied on the visit by the Prime Minister, the Army Chief of Staff and senior government officials.

During the visit, His Majesty requested the National Guard to maintain security during the stay at the center, and he also stressed its importance.

The National Guard was declared as Bhutan’s national service during the National Day in 2019 to empower the youth of Bhutan and equip them with the skills to succeed anywhere in the world. This news comes as the country’s economy is slowing down.
