Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated the newly elected Secretary General of the European Commission, Alain Berset. The message said:

“I warmly congratulate you on your election to the high post of Secretary-General of the Council of Europe and wish you every success in discharging your duties, which require enormous efforts and responsibility.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe, as Europe and beyond face complex geopolitical challenges. In these difficult times when democracy and human rights are under severe test, a strong Council of Europe is needed more than ever to promote and achieve lasting peace by safeguarding universal values.

I am confident that your efforts during your tenure as Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, aimed at guaranteeing the primacy of our fundamental values ​​and principles and the protection of human rights throughout the Council of Europe’s geographical area, will contribute to the effective functioning of the Convention system and strengthen the role of the Council of Europe.

I want to confirm that you can count on my full support and that of the Government of the Republic of Armenia in this responsible mission.

Once again, I congratulate you on your election as Secretary General of the Council of Europe. I will be happy to meet you at the first opportunity and to host you in Armenia.”
