Prime Minister Gary Cornell reviewed the financial system during a meeting with members of the central bank’s board.

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, Prime Minister Gary Cornier, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Ketleen Florestal, met with members of the Central Bank’s Board of Directors, in particular its Governor Ronald Gabriel.

During this meeting, a stocktake of the financial system, including microfinance institutions, was taken, according to a note from the Prime Minister’s Office.

It must be pointed out that according to a BRH In a document published in 2018 on the microfinance sector in Haiti, microfinance is defined as the sector that brings together mechanisms for distributing small amounts of credit to low-income people, allowing them to create and manage microenterprises. Its goal is to provide financial services to low-income people or those excluded from the formal financial system.

Microfinance also enables these people to gain permanent access to affordable and quality financial services to finance income-generating activities, save, build assets, stabilize consumer spending and protect themselves from risks.
