The opposition leader, who has been relentlessly critical of the Rajapaksa family over the past few years, reportedly secretly met Mr Basil Rajapaksa, who is believed to be the mastermind behind Pohotuwa, and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa last year and held discussions last week.
The congressman, who dreams of becoming president, is a man who has run for parliament through multiple parties and coalitions in the past.
The MP, who once held a key ministerial portfolio in the Rajapaksa government, later stepped down and continued to be a strong critic of Rajapaksa’s politics.
However, the party chief was said to have arranged to meet Rajapaksa family strongman Mr. Basil Rajapaksa and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa last week for a friendly chat.
The party leader has reportedly informed Mr. Basil Rajapaksa that he has no problem with the Rajapaksa family and the problem is with someone who is with him.
Furthermore, the party leader has reportedly asked for candidacy in the next elections.
