President encourages VOS graduates to continue their efforts

127 graduates of Upper Secondary Education (VOS) were invited by the government to attend a special meeting. Principal Chan Santokhi expressed his appreciation because the students showed their best despite the severe challenges in education. “You are role models,” Santokhi pointed out. He stressed that society needs students like them. According to him, they reached the finish line with great perseverance.

The Head of State honoured the top ten students at the VOS level in the National Assembly Hall on Saturday. He did this together with the Minister of Education, Science and Culture Henry Ori, the Minister of Labour, Employment and Youth Affairs Steven Mac Andrew and several directors of the Cabinet. The President expressed his pride in the 127 graduates whom he specially invited.

The President is aware of the challenges faced by young people. Therefore, he created the Youth Platform in the Cabinet to represent the interests of this group. The platform focuses on the problems faced by young people and students. He called on students to turn to the platform if necessary. “You can go to them if you need to. They have my full support to find solutions to the problems faced by young people.”

President Santohi called on the students and young people present to continue their studies. “We need students like you in our society.” The head of state reviewed the developments in the oil and gas sector and stressed that the industry needs many experts. “We need highly educated people throughout Suriname.”
