A judge has granted a court application to allow a man banned from contact with his partner to attend the birth of their child.
The application was made by the man’s pregnant partner at a court in County Donegal today.
The woman’s application is part of a family law case currently before the court.
The court heard the woman was seeking to vary her partner’s restraining order by consent.
The judge in the case was told that the woman was due to give birth at Letterkenny University Hospital at a future date.
The pregnant woman applied in court through her lawyer to allow her partner to accompany her during the birthing.
The court did not reveal the exact timing of the lifting of the ban.
The judge asked if there was a date of birth, but none was given.
The judge said she would make an order allowing the application “in accordance with hospital procedures”.
The lawyer representing the man in the case told the court that when he was initially arrested, his bail conditions required him to reside outside Donegal.
The judge said an application could be made to vary bail to allow the application.
As they left the courtroom, the judge told the woman: “I wish you the best.”
