The Portuguese Communist Party met with Jerry Tardieu and Louis Nord-Pierre to discuss constitutional reform and the National Conference
The Presidential Palace announced that on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the Presidential Transition Council (Continuous stimulation) through Presidential Advisor Smith Augustine and former Deputy Jerry Tardieu and Professor Louis Nord-Pierre, with a view to initiating work related to the National Conference and constitutional issues.
Jerry Tardieu chairs the Special Legislative Committee responsible for the proposed constitutional amendments for the 50th Legislature. Professor Louis Nord-Pierre is a key figure in the Independent Consultative Committee (ICC) set up by former President Jovenel Moïse to work on the new constitutional project.
However, according to a note from the Bureau, the discussions focused on consultations on the establishment of a steering committee that will oversee the entire constitutional reform process and ensure balanced representation of all stakeholders; Steps to the preparation of a new constitution. Participants in this meeting discussed the different necessary stages, from consolidation of the work already carried out to popular consultations after the final drafting of the new constitution, including workshops and national debates.
Key points discussed included the convening of a national conference aimed at gathering opinions and proposals on new social projects from different sectors of national life and ensuring that the new constitution reflected the general aspirations of the Haitian people.
It was stressed that this meeting marked an important step in relaunching the issue of constitutional reform and the National Conference as a national project, aimed at being inclusive and participatory, thus meeting the needs and expectations of the Haitian people.
