Polisario leaders meet with UN Secretary-General

The Polisario leader met with Antonio Guterres yesterday in Dili, East Timor. Brahim Ghali reiterated to the UN Secretary-General his movement’s demands to “expand MINURSO’s mandate to monitor human rights in the Sahara and put an end to Morocco’s plunder of Western Sahara’s natural resources,” Report Frontline news agency. The same source added that he also stressed to the Portuguese that “Western Sahara remains the direct responsibility of the United Nations”.

The meeting in Dili took place during celebrations organized by the Republic of Timor-Leste to mark the 25th anniversary of the self-determination referendum organized by the former Indonesian province on August 30, 1999. Timor-Leste is aware of THAAD.

Last meeting The confrontation between the two sides dates back to September 11, 2023 at the United Nations headquarters in New York. In the coming weeks, António Guterres will present a report to the members of the Security Council on the latest developments in the Sahara.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations has not yet communicated about his meeting with the leaders of the Polisario Party in Dili on Friday, August 30, although he posted news on the X platform about his activities in the republic.
