The body of a 59-year-old police officer, Clement Ladu, was found floating in the Kinyeti River in Torit town on Thursday.
Sgt Radu’s body was found floating under the Kormoloto Bridge after he was reported missing since last week.
Lieutenant Kennedy Khamisi, assistant director of security and disaster management at the Eastern Equatoria State Civil Defence Agency, told the media that the body was found at 6.40am.
“The officer went missing a week ago. His name is Officer Clement Ladue, 59 years old, and he lives in Helongut,” he explained.
Khamis warned against unnecessary crossings of the Kinyeti River during the rainy season and against excessive drinking.
“People living across the bridge, especially children, should avoid the Kinneti River, especially during heavy rains,” he said.
State Police Commissioner Major General James Mundy-Enoka confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family of the late officer.
He said his death was a huge loss to the police force and a gap that would be difficult to fill.
Mustafa Lokulu, medical director of Torit State Hospital, ruled out suicide.
On August 10, Angelina Lakwac Solomon, a 48-year-old widow and mother of six, was found drowned in a river in Torit town.
